Advanced ultrasonic array techniques and probes were developed using modeling and their capabilities were validated utilizing samples with real HTHA damage, and progressively qualified in the field during vessels and piping inspections. Ultrasonic array techniques and algorithms demonstrated improved detectability, characterization, and sizing of early stage HTHA damage. The results were recognized by NDE experts, accepted by the industry and the techniques were recommended in 2020 revision of API 941. | |
